See how many plants your nursery raised itself — sown, germinated, sold and still standing — with bought-in stock kept separate

Self-Production Report Overview
The Self-Production Report answers one question: how many plants did this nursery actually raise itself? It counts the seeds you sowed, how many came up, how many have gone out to customers, and how many are still standing. Plants you bought in ready-made are kept on their own tab, so your in-house figures are never inflated by someone else's stock.
It is a read-only report — nothing is entered here. Every number is derived from the sowing batches, germination readings, dispatches and sales you have already recorded.
Where to Find It
Production → Self-Production Report
The report lives in the Production menu in the sidebar, alongside the screens it summarises — Sowing Batches, Germination Tracking and Plant Summary. There is no separate "Reports" menu.

Who can open it: anyone with Plant Stock Summary or Sowing Management permission
The Two Tabs
Own Production vs Purchased Stock
These two populations must never be mixed, so each has its own tab with its own columns and its own totals. The count badge on each tab shows how many plant-variety rows it contains.
Own production: batches you sowed in the nursery. This is the default tab — the conservative view of what you produced.
Purchased stock: ready plants bought from vendors and recorded as purchased batches. They were never sown here, so the Sown and Germination % columns are dropped entirely rather than shown as zero, and Germinated is labelled Received.
Switching tabs also switches the four metric tiles above the table, so a tile can never contradict the table under it.
What Each Metric Means
The Four Numbers
Sown
Seeds put into trays for this plant
Actual seeds sown; planned quantity until that is entered
Germinated
Seedlings that actually came up
The stock you have to sell from these batches
Sold / Dispatched
Plants that have left the nursery
Order dispatches plus direct (counter) sales
Balance
Plants still standing in the nursery
Germinated minus Sold; never less than zero
Germination % is Germinated out of Sown, shown under the Germinated figure on each row and as a hint on the tile. A low figure points to a seed or nursery-condition problem worth checking. It is not shown for purchased plants — nothing was sown, so there is no rate to work out.
Usage-Based Counting — Same Maths as Plant Summary
How the Numbers Are Worked Out
The report deliberately reuses the Plant Summary's own stock maths, so the two screens can never disagree:
Sown: the batch's actual seeds sown, falling back to the planned seed quantity while actuals are still unrecorded
Germinated / Received: the batch's available plants, as recorded at the germination check (or at purchase entry for bought-in plants)
Sold / Dispatched: quantity dispatched against the batch's linked order items, plus batch usage from direct sales — this is usage-based, not a status flag
Balance: Germinated minus Sold / Dispatched, floored at zero
Because dispatches and direct sales both reduce the balance, the report reflects plants that physically left the nursery — not orders that were merely booked.
Filters & Grouping
Narrowing the Report
All filters sit in one compact row in the table card's header and apply to both tabs:
Search: matches plant, variety, batch number and unit name
Unit: restrict the report to one nursery unit, or leave it on "All units"
Sown from / Sown to: a sowing-date range — useful for season-by-season comparison
Group by:Plant, variety & unit (one row per unit, adds a Unit column) or Plant & variety (units rolled together)
Clear: a quiet "Clear" button appears only when a filter is actually set
The server echoes the grouping it applied, so the columns on screen always match the data behind them.
Reading a Row
Rows and the Totals Line
First column: the crop name in bold, with the variety and the number of batches behind the row underneath
Unit column: shown only when grouping by unit
Number columns: right-aligned and tabular, so figures line up for quick scanning
Em dash (—): printed where a number does not apply (for example, Sown on bought-in plants) — never a misleading zero
Total row: the last row of the table, shaded and bold, with a "N plants · N batches" hint. It comes from the same server payload as the rows, so it always adds up
The ⓘ Help Icons
Every Derived Number Explains Itself
Each metric tile label and each numeric column heading carries a small ⓘ button. Hover it, tap it on a phone, or reach it with the Tab key to read a one- or two-sentence explanation of exactly what that number counts. Tile and column read from the same copy, so they can never describe a number differently.
When the Report Is Empty
Nothing to Aggregate Yet
An empty tab is not an error — it means no batches of that kind match your filters. The empty state offers the way out rather than a dead end:
Own production empty: a link to Record a sowing batch
Purchased stock empty: a link to Record a plant purchase
If you expected rows and see none, widen the sowing-date range or clear the unit filter first.
Best Practices
Getting the Most From This Report
Enter actual seeds sown on each batch — until you do, Sown shows the planned figure and the germination % is only an estimate
Record germination readings promptly; Germinated is what the rest of the report is built on
Compare in-house Balance against the Purchased tab before buying in more stock
Use the sowing-date range to compare the same crop across seasons
Group by unit to spot a unit whose germination consistently lags the others
Treat a low germination % as a prompt to check seed lot and nursery conditions, not as a final verdict
Cross-check against the Plant Summary Dashboard — both read the same live stock, so a mismatch means a batch entry needs attention
